Can anyone tell me the estimated number of macrophages that will possibly be induced in the peritoneum of mice using thioglycollate and going with the 3 day protocol?

Also, the estimated number that might be found without any manipulation at all?...(just sacrificing the mouse and injecting with PBS solution without any use of thioglycollate or other media)

Hi! No manipulation at all results in pitifully few - in the low 10s of thousands range of macrophages.
Thioglycollate injection, followed by sucrose based extraction (discussed lesewherein the forum and briefly in J Immunol Methods. 2003 Jan 15;272(1-2):55-65) results in anywhere between 4-6 million cells - there is some variability among mice.

Is that the low 10's of thousands for no manipulation and 4-6 million cells with thio. per mL or under the total cell number?
