Announcement and Call For Papers

Asia and Pacific Workshop on Biological Physics

3-5 July 2006, National University of Singapore

http://www.biophysicssingapore.org/

The Deadline for Abstract Submission has been extended to 19 January 2006

It is generally recognized that in the 21st century the biosciences are destined to undergo a dramatic transition to higher levels of quantitative precision. The ultimate goal of Life Sciences is to understand living systems in terms of the properties of their constituent molecules. Achieving this will require inputs of expertise and tools from a wide range of disciplines, including the physical sciences, biological sciences, maths and computation. In this process, biological physics plays an increasingly important role due to the latest break-through in the experimental and computer simulation techniques, which allows the direct application of basic physics principles to examine the underlying mechanism controlling the activities of organisms and living phenomena.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide a unique opportunity for biological physicists in the Asian and Pacific region to review the latest development in the frontier of biophysics and to promote the collaborations in this region. The principal objectives of the workshop are:

* To provide good pedagogical and introductory courses for researchers and graduate students who would like to learn about biological physics and its relevancy to life sciences and engineering.

* To promote exchanges of scientific knowledge in this field

* To strengthen the ties among the scientists of the region who work in this area.

The subjects to be covered are as follows

* Biomembrane Physics
* Biomolecule assembly/aggregation, and interaction
* Bio-molecular structure and function
* Bioimaging and surface probing
* Emerging technique and Bio-nano assembly and devices

Abstract Submission

Papers for oral and posters presentations will be selected based on the 1-page abstract.

Authors are invited to submit the abstract on any of the following subjects:

* Biomembrane Physics
* Biomolecule assembly/aggregation, and interaction
* Bio-molecular structure and function
* Bioimaging and surface probing
* Emerging technique and Bio-nano assembly and devices

Abstracts in the standard format should be no longer than 300 words and to be submitted to the Conference Secretariat by 19 January 2006. For details on the abstract submission, please visit the following website:
