In almost every clinical study it is absolutely a necessity to show positive dose-response to the tested compound in order to optimize final dosage.
It is commonly believe that dose-response is linear from low-dose to high, however non-linear dose-response characterized by low-dose stimulation and high-dose inhibition is also well known.
This unpredicted effect have been observed by many scientists and termed as HORMESIS.
The International Dose-Response Society scientists are trying to understand the nature and mechanisms behind the HORMESIS phenomenon.
