Does somebody know if it is possible to describe the whole pattern of the microarrays as a single equation or number? I know it is a kind of very naive question but I am just curious if we can use the microarrays as a tool for diagnosis and not as a mere tool for fishing genes. Thanks.

Once a region is discovered, researchers rum more samples, validate and confirm the relationship between the candidate and the genotype. Then researchers come up with a hypothesis that certain gene is related to a certain phenotype for disease and this is exactly where microarrays are used for diagnosis after gene fishing is done.

Beyond using microarrays for fishing, I was wondering if it is possible to get a single pattern info able to give indications about possible disorders of the transcriptome. Thanks.
