The prize was established to recognize outstanding work in any field of neuroscience. The prize is €50,000.00 for personal use and up to €25,000.00 for additional training and mentoring by a leading expert in the field. The mentoring expert will be chosen by the awardee in cooperation with the Hertie-Foundation.

Eligible are European neuroscientists under the age of 40, who have demonstrated outstanding scientific creativity and productivity, as documented by multiple publications in leading scientific journals.

Candidates must be nominated by their University/research institution or by an internationally recognized neuroscientist. Self-nomination is not possible. Nominations must include the following documentation: 1) a letter of recommendation (not exceeding two written pages), 2) a curriculum vitae of the candidate including 3) a publication list, 4) up to three key publications in PDF format, 5) a cover letter from the nominee stating what he/she expects to gain from the mentoring process (including proposals for mentors).

The deadline for nomination is 31 July 2009. Nominations must be sent via Email to the address below. The successful candidate will be selected by an international jury of leading neuroscientists. The prize will be awarded at the beginning of October 2009.
