What will medicine look like 50 years from now?
Some of the world's leading scientists will attempt to answer that tantalizing question at a one-day symposium co-sponsored by The Jackson Laboratory and The Johns Hopkins University. The symposium, intended for general audiences, will fall on the last day of the courses.jax.org/2009/50th_short_course.html
Luminaries such as Nobel Laureates Richard Axel and Mario Capecchi, former National Institutes of Health Director Elias Zerhouni, Rudolf Jaenisch, Janet Rowley and more will discuss the future of genetics research and medicine, including cancer, neurogenetics, stem cells, public policy and individualized medicine. The agenda also includes panel discussions about the presentations, moderated by National Public Radio science correspondent Joe Palca. A reception, dinner and lecture by MIT genome researcher Eric Lander at the Bar Harbor Club will culminate the symposium.

Bar Harbor is served by two airports:
New visa rules by the U.S. State Department now in effect. Beginning in August 2008, visitors traveling to the U.S. from visa waiver countries (i.e. Europe, Japan, Australia, etc.) will have to register online 3 days in advance of travel.
