Jul 31, 2009 - Jul 31, 2009 College of the Atlantic, Gates Auditorium, Bar Harbor, Maine

What will medicine look like 50 years from now?

Some of the world's leading scientists will attempt to answer that tantalizing question at a one-day symposium co-sponsored by The Jackson Laboratory and The Johns Hopkins University. The symposium, intended for general audiences, will fall on the last day of the courses.jax.org/2009/50th_short_course.html

Luminaries such as Nobel Laureates Richard Axel and Mario Capecchi, former National Institutes of Health Director Elias Zerhouni, Rudolf Jaenisch, Janet Rowley and more will discuss the future of genetics research and medicine, including cancer, neurogenetics, stem cells, public policy and individualized medicine. The agenda also includes panel discussions about the presentations, moderated by National Public Radio science correspondent Joe Palca. A reception, dinner and lecture by MIT genome researcher Eric Lander at the Bar Harbor Club will culminate the symposium.

A limited number of tickets are available to the public.

There are services available for the disabled.  If special arrangements are required for an individual with a disability to attend this program, please contact Erin McDevitt at 207-288-6659.
