Glycosylation and Brett Favre
Hey everybody,
Happy Friday,
I hope everyone had a great fourth of July.
I want to start this blog with my pitch for glycosylation. Full disclosure, I am a glycobiologist. I got my PhD in a glyco lab and I now postdoc in a different glyco lab. You could say I've drank the glyco kool-aid and I am a full believer. If you happen to study a protein or lipid (and many of us fall into this category) take a close look at the carbohydrates hanging off the end. They probably play an important role in your favorite cellular mechanism and could open up a whole new direction of study. Here is a good review from Cell to get you started on the road to glycosylation, but remember, it only covers the tip of the iceberg.

Now on to Brett Favre.
Wow, that seemed to get out of hand fast! How did we go from playing in the NFC Championship game to Brett asking for his walking papers? I feel like I must have missed something. Like many other diehard Packer fans, Brett Favre is my favorite athlete in any sport. An icon. Needless to say. I'm a little torn. After the tearful press conference, I was down for a while. But then I started to move on, started to accept the NFL without Brett. Even started to believe in Aaron Rodgers, and youth, and a young, powerful, driven, Green Bay Packers team without Brett. And now WHAMMO. Brett wants back and it looks like the Packers don't want him. ?????????? What can I say. I want to win another superbowl and I think Brett gives us the best chance. I don't want to see him play for another team. At the same time, I understand trying to move on as an organization. I also had let Brett go, in my mind. Now I say let him play another year. He's earned it. But it may be too late for that. If that is the case, then trade him to the AFC. Don't just release him, and then watch him sign with the Vikings, be angry, and throw for 5 TDs against us. That would suck. My favorite player beating up on my favorite team. If there are any Joe Montana/49er fans out there that can provide some therapy, it would be well appreciated.
