"But if he is right, Dr. Wefel said that the ATIC data favored something even more exotic than supersymmetry, namely a particle that is lost in the fifth dimension. String theory predicts that there are at least six dimensions beyond our simple grasp, wrapped up so tightly we cannot see them or park in them. A particle in one of these dimensions would not appear to us directly.
Such patients received blood (not screened for HIV) transfusion before 1984. It appears that about 20% of hemophiliacs receiving HIV positive blood were resistant to HIV/AIDS. This makes them a very important subjects for identification of resistant factors.

We all hear about the stories and have long disscussions over brain-drain and all; as what we should do to stop it, or atleast decrease its acceleration in order to uplift the quality of research and education in our countries. This is considered as a problem in most of the developing countries because the education costs will be beared by the respective government and in return the country doesnot get anything. The concensus says that if the country is paying for a person, he or she sho...

Raman spectroscopy, a introduction

Raman spectroscopy offers several advantages for microscopic analysis. Since it is a scattering technique, specimens do not need to be fixed or sectioned. Raman spectra can be collected from a very small volume (< 1 µm in diameter); these spectra allow the identification of species present in that volume. Water does not interfere very strongly. Thus, Raman spectroscopy is suitable for the microscopic examination of minerals, materials such as polymers and ceramics, cells and proteins....

I found this article in the New York Times detailing a research project that may bring back the Mammoth and potentially other extinct species. It looks like advances in genomic techniques have allowed for a fairly accurate sequence of the mammoth genome taken from mammoth hair. A proposed project costing 10 million dollars would implant that genome into an elephant egg, and create a Mammoth. This a very exciting idea (straight out of the pages of a Michael Crichton novel).
