Hopefully all you US scientists are members of the Coalition for the Life Sciences. If not sign up today! Here is there latest newsletter detailing critical information on a potential bill to help the NIH finding situation. I urge you to write or call this week. Working together we get things done.
Dear CLC Members: The U.S. Congress is considering a Domestic Supplemental bill that could include additional funding for the NIH. Although the Senate Appropriations Committee included $500 million for the NIH in its bill, it is still unclear how much-if any-money the House of Representatives may provide for the NIH. That's why it is important for the scientific community to be heard. It is up to you to convince legislators that the NIH must be a priority when considering any new Supplemental bill. Several competing and worthwhile programs are being considered for funding in the new Supplemental bill, so it is up to the scientific community to make a strong case for the inclusion of the NIH. Your recent actions helped to add $150 million to the NIH budget in the last Supplemental Appropriations bill. This is evidence that the scientific community's voice is valued on Capitol Hill. Since only four more weeks are left in the legislative session, it is important to act now. The most expeditious way to ensure your voice is heard is to call your elected official's offices. When you call, simply ask your Representative and your Senators to vote in support of a Domestic Supplemental bill that includes additional funding for the NIH. If you prefer to email or fax a letter, the CLS has provided a sample letter for your use. To find information on calling your Member of Congress or to access the provided letter, please go tohttp://capwiz.com/jscpp/home/ . Congressional leaders will be in their districts and states throughout the month of August. If you have a chance to attend a town hall meeting, please do so and ask your representative to support this proposal. Please forward this alert to your colleagues, friends, and family members and encourage them also to contact their elected officials in Washington!
