We entered our new house couple of months ago and did have neither the money nor the strength to start a garden.
The front and back yard was covered by grass and although it is nice it is boring. So we thought that we need to do something about it.
Looking at neighbouring gardens and getting ideas from books and TV shows and last but not least taking into account the budget we started thinking of what we wanted.
We know that here in Canada half of the year is cold and white and we wanted green. Which means ever green trees and shrubs. Then my better half likes to cook so we knew that we need some kind of a herb garden but with the consideration that all needs to go into our basement coming November.
Another thing that we wanted was to eat some fruits from our own trees.
Having all of the above we started in our journey looking for plants.
We got herbs from a herb nursery and one day when we returned from a trip we so a big notice on the side of the road 10,000 trees, we entered the place and it was going into a paradise of trees and shrubs. There we got a Pear tree and a Cherie tree.
Interestingly the Pear tree gives 4 different kinds of pears. The other thing that I did not know is that when you plant a Cherie tree you need to buy 2 trees as they are not self fertilizing, but fortunately there is one kind of Cherie tree that is self fertilizing . This was good as our back yard is small and we wanted all together three trees this gives us the opportunity to get a third tree later on (we want some apple pie).
We got also some Boxwood and Yues and also a Blue Spruce.
The planting job had begun couple of days ago. Starting as they told us with digging a hole twice as deep and twice as wide as the plat pot was put the soil preferably Triple Mix. And lots of other directions like to loosen the roots to plant it an inch above the ground to cover it with top soil and not to cover the stem.
A lot of work was done and still to be done.
I will attach some photos on my next Blog entery.
Be well and prosper.

I love gardening!! I hope you enjoy it very much! I have an apple tree and a grapevine (moscatell variety, of course!!) in my little garden and I love them!! In summer I can collect some herbs too (rosmarinus officinalis, mint, thymus vulgaris, different kind of lavender, basil, oregano, salvia…) and a lot of strawberries! But this summer we suffered a great drought followed by strong and non-stop rains and I have lost the main part of the harvest… Sniff, sniff… Now I put my hopes in the grapes, fighting against a micological infection (yes, fungi genera is overwhelming me!!) Aix… But, seriously, I love gardening!! :-P
We got some trees planted a week ago. Chery, Pear and Plum. My better half know the full name. Yes and we also love herbs we got Basil, Oregano, Chives, Parsley, and some more. We also got Jasmine, Myrtle and Pomegranate. The only thing is that as all of them excluding the trees would have to be taken into the basement cumming winter.
Wow! What a lovely garden!! I don't have a basement to protect my plants and winter is a cold here (sure not as cold as in Canada!!)I love pomegranate!!!! I'm green on envy! ;-) Cheers!
