Post-doctoral fellowship in Organic Synthesis

Post-doctoral fellowhip in "Synthesis of magnetic zeolite catalysts and their application in lignocellulosic biomass valorization"The Centre of Excellence for Research in Sustainable Chemistry (CERSusChem), supported by FAPESP and GSK, offers a Postdoctoral fellowship for researchers with experience on catalysis applied to lignocellulosic biomass valorization, in particular, aiming the synthesis of platform compounds, and the preparation of zeolitic catalysts. The position is open for highly qualified Brazilians and foreigners who will join the team of researchers of CERSusChem at the Department of Chemistry at Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Candidates must have got their PhD degree within the last 7 (seven) years, and the researcher will investigate reactions for conversion of platform chemicals derived from biomass to value-added products using heterogeneous catalysis (solid-liquid and solid-gas) and electrocatalysis.Experience on the preparation and characterization of iron oxide based magnetic nanoparticles, as well on zeolites supported on magnetic materials, must be proven. The candidate is expected to have expertise in different characterization techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) with Rietveld refinement, energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature programmed reduction using hydrogen and carbon monoxide (TPR-H2 and TPR-CO), temperature programmed desorption using ammonia (TPD-NH3), pyridine adsorption infrared and specific surface area measurements. In addition, the candidate is expected to possess experience on reactions for the valorization of platform chemicals derived from biomass and expertise on gas and liquid chromatography (GC and HPLC).Applications must be submitted only by e-mail to Professor Lucia Helena Mascaro (cersuschem@ufscar.br). Those interested should send a resume (short CV) including publications in the area of this project. The registration period ends on February 28th, 2017.This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP's Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 6,819.30 monthly and 15% of the annual value of the fellowship to be use in the project development (is should be spend in items directly related to the research activity).
