I've got a problem. Last two weeks, I've been working with intrathecal surgery on 200-250g of SD rats. This is my first time doing this, and I really doubt about my skills. I'm doing spinal cord injury at T9/T10 level. The implantation of the catheter and pump just try and error, at the end it didn't work. Herewith the doubts:
Trial Number 1: I'm using a pump called Iprecio pump instead of using Alzet pump. So, the catheter (PE10) from iprecio pump was inserted at cisterna magna after small incision is made at dura layer. The catheter has to travel from cisterna magna until T9 level of spinal cord. This approach is risky because it might cause an injury to other part of spinal cord. I'm not happy with this approach.
Trial number 2: Same set up of catheter was inserted at level T12 up to T9 (site of injury). The insertion of catheter is time consuming and difficult. I'm not happy with this approach too.
I'm considering to look for help. Really need a help!
1) Does anybody has any experience on intrathecal surgery, which protocol have you done? Which is possible to do?
2) Does anybody has an ideas how to tackle this problem? I know its simple to some people but let me know if I can improve to do it.
3) Does anybody knows any video on net that shows how the protocol is done? I'm searching for best one, already got Alzet's procedure but the protocol is too simple and didn't understand it well.
Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
