Ph.D. Student req at Institute of Neurophysiology, Charité, Berlin.

A DFG-funded Ph.D. position is available for research and training in the Institute of Neurophysiology, Charité, Berlin. This position is offered in the framework of a Graduate School 1123 Cellular Mechanisms of Learning and Memory Consolidation in the Hippocampal Formation. The research project will focus on basic mechanisms of synaptic plasticity in the hippocampal formation due to the established role of this structure in learning and memory. Our goal is to gain insight into the cellular causes of disturbed hippocampal information processing that contribute to deficits in memory performance in neuropsychiatric disorders like schizophrenia, depression and temporal lobe epilepsy. Our experimental approaches include conventional intracellular single cell recordings and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings in human and rat brain slices, multi-electrode recordings, infrared and fluorescent video microscopy and neuroanatomical techniques.

Candidates should have a strong background and practical experience in Neurophysiology and Electrophysiology. Salary will follow DFG guidelines. Please, send a letter describing research experience/interest, CV, and contact information of references electronically to Dr. Joachim Behr.
