Public perceptions of solar cells

In a recent public forum that we held in conjunction with the Oregon Museum of Science and Technology (OMSI), the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) and the University of Oregon, we polled the public on whether they would support development of nanotechnology based solar cells if.... and we gave them best and worst case scenerios (high cost, potentially toxic, ugly panels in your neighborhood, inital loss of jobs until the work force can be trained in manufacturing etc).

The general consensus was that the public would support nanotechnology based solar cells if proper safety measures were installed and the public informed on any potential problems or hazards.
