Postdoctoral Positions in Bacterial Pathogenesis and Nanotechnology

We discovered a novel siderophore secretion system which is a key virulence factor of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (PLoS Pathogens 9, e1003120). Our goal is to characterize the membrane transporters required for uptake of siderophores and heme. Experience in molecular microbiology is required.

A revolutionary method of sequencing DNA utilizes nanopores. The porin MspA was discovered by us and has become the nanopore for DNA sequencing (PNAS 107, 16060; Nat. Biotechnol. 30, 349). Our goal is to improve the MspA pore for DNA sequencing by protein engineering. Experience in biochemistry and in protein design and purification is required.

Applicants should submit a CV including three representative publications as a single pdf file and ask for three letters of recommendation sent to Michael Niederweis (mnieder@uab.edu).
