Postdoctoral Position in Cancer Target Discovery : Cambridgeshire

The position is for 3 years and available to start immediately.

An exciting opportunity exists for a postdoctoral fellow to join in a collaborative effort between academia and industry to identify new oncology drug targets.

The Centre for Therapeutic Target Validation is a recently established pioneering public-private initiative between GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), EMBL-EBI (European Bioinformatics Institute) and the WTSI (Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute), located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton, near Cambridge, UK (http://www.targetvalidation.org/). The CTTV aims to generate evidence on the biological validity of therapeutic targets and provide an initial assessment of the likely effectiveness of pharmacological intervention on these targets, using genome-scale experiments and analysis. The CTTV aims to provide an R&D framework that applies to all aspects of human disease, and to share its data openly with the scientific community. The goal of the CTTV is to harness the power of â??big dataâ?? and genome sequencing to improve the success rate for discovering new medicines and share its data openly in the interests of accelerating drug discovery.

The project involves the use of CRISRP/Cas9 genome-editing technologies to identify novel drug targets in genetically defined cancer models. The role will involve developing and optimizing CRISPR/Cas9 technologies, performing functional screens in cancer cell models, and mechanistic follow-up studies to validate new oncology targets.

The candidate will be working within a dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team formed of postdocs, students, bioinformaticians, statisticians and computer biologists, and will be expected to participate in the planning and coordination of this research program.

Candidates will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources including large-scale functional screening infrastructure (chemical, RNAi, CRISPR), DNA sequencing facilities, patient-derived cell cultures, genetically engineered mouse models, and bioinformatics support.
