Postdoctoral Position in Biodefense Research Section
Department of Health and Human Services
National Institutes of Health
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
The Biodefense Research Section (BRS) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Vaccine Research Center (VRC), located on the main NIH campus in Bethesda, MD, has an immediate opening for a creative and self-motivated postdoctoral fellow in immunology or virology to study immune responses and virus biology in a biosafety level -2/-3 setting.
The recent outbreak of Ebola in West Africa has focused attention on the development of a safe and effective vaccine against filovirus disease. BRS has developed a vaccine that uses a chimpanzee-derived adenovirus serotype 3 as an immunogenic vector to elicit protective immunity against Ebola virus. The vaccine candidate has shown promising results in animal models against two Ebola virus strains, including the Zaire Ebola strain responsible for the current outbreak in West Africa. The cAd3-EBO Z candidate Ebola vaccine was just evaluated in an accelerated Phase I trial performed by the VRC in the NIH Clinical Center.
Applicants who meet the following requirements will be considered for the positions:
• Ph.D. in immunology, virology, or closely related field
• Sufficient oral and written communication skills
• Clear sense of organization, purpose, and accountability
Salary depends on qualifications and years of postdoctoral experience.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter and current curriculum vitae to firstname.lastname@example.org.
