Although the position is in the Center for Neurosciences here at SRI International, applicants from other disciplines (e.g., immunology, virology, hematology, microbiology) who have a strong background in molecular biology/genetics are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join an NIH-funded research team that studies the cellular and molecular biology/genetics of age-related neurologic disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. The laboratory’s research program includes studies of adult brain stem cells, epigenetics, peripheral (blood) mechanisms and biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease, functional correlates of SNPs associated with Alzheimer’s risk, and neuroinflammation.
The position requires a Ph.D. (or M.D. with laboratory experience). Entry-level postdoctoral fellows, as well as applicants at a Research Scientist level, will be considered. Complete mastery and in-depth experience with at least four of the following techniques is an absolute and unconditional requirement: ELISA, gel electrophoresis (e.g., Western blots), protein separation, PCR, sequencing, cell culture, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry. An ability to work independently and to interact and communicate successfully with others in the laboratory and with collaborators outside the laboratory is required. Prior expertise in Alzheimer’s disease or neuroscience is not required. In your cover letter or CV, please explicitly list the cellular and molecular techniques with which you have in-depth experience. Post-offer, pre-laboratory physical examination will be required.
