OPENING FOR A POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW:
BACTERIAL LOCOMOTION BY ROTATING FLAGELLA
START: July 1, 2012 or later
DURATION: one year (extension to two years is planned)
SALARY: 100% TV-L E13
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATION: May 31, 2012
DESCRIPTION: At the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Technische Universität Berlin, we are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow for a project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. The project aims at modeling the locomotion of bacteria such as
E.coli in a fluid. Using Stokesian hydrodynamics, the run-and-tumble motion of a bacterium and also swimming in confinement and under Poiseuille flow should be investigated. The work will be done in collaboration with a theoretical research group in Jülich.
REQUIREMENTS: You should hold a PhD in physics and be familiar with numerical modeling and methods of statistical physics applied to soft condensed matter or biological physics. Previous knowledge in Stokesian hydrodynamics would be helpful.
THE POSITION is available starting from July 1st, 2012 for a duration of one year, an extension to two years is planned. The position is subject to the final approval.
FOR APPLICATION, please send a full CV, copies of certificates, and a list of publications to the email address indicated below, and arrange for two letters of recommendation.
To support gender equality, applications from women with the respective qualifications are explicitly desired.
