postdoctoral on DNA Damage Response (DDR) Regulation by ncRNAs (DDRNAs)

Our group studies the impact of DNA damage response (DDR) activation in biologically relevant settings with a special emphasis on cellular senescence. We have now openings for creative and motivated researchers at the postdoctoral level to study the biogenesis and mechanisms of action of a recently-discovered novel class of non coding RNAs, called DDRNAs, that control the local DDR in mammalian cells (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nature11179.html). Our findings are conceptually novel and expected to have important consequences on our understanding of DNA damage checkpoint and repair control, cellular senescence, cancer development and ageing.
The successful applicant will hold a PhD and will be able to demonstrate an in depth understanding of functions and of mechanisms of action of non-coding RNAs, with a special emphasis on DICER and DROSHA RNA products, in mammals and/or a knowledge of molecular mechanisms of DDR. Applicants who performed only microRNA profiling should not apply. Essential is a proven track record of productivity with at least one first author paper published in a high-impact international peer-reviewed journal. The candidate will be career-oriented, energetic and capable to take full advantage of the interactive research environment of our Campus and of an existing network of collaborators. Bioinformatics skills are a plus.

IFOM is part of a campus that hosts about 500 people and results from the integration of IFOM, IEO (European Institute of Oncology) and a branch of IIT (Italian Institute of Technology). It presently hosts more than 40 independent research groups, a PhD school (SEMM), a Technology Transfer firm (TTF) and excellent core facilities. IFOM has joint laboratories in Singapore and India.

Milan is a vibrant city, located close to the Alps, the lakes region and the Mediterranean sea.

An internationally competitive salary will be commensurate with skills and experience

Candidates should send their CV together with a cover letter which should outline their interest in applying for the role and explain how they meet the set criteria, and contact details of their referees to eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%66%61%62%72%69%7a%69%6f%2e%64%61%64%64%61%40%69%66%6f%6d%2d%69%65%6f%2d%63%61%6d%70%75%73%2e%69%74%22%3e%66%61%62%72%69%7a%69%6f%2e%64%61%64%64%61%40%69%66%6f%6d%2d%69%65%6f%2d%63%61%6d%70%75%73%2e%69%74%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) .
