Postdoc position in "MicroRNAs in the Pathogenesis of Epilepsy"-Denmark

A three-year postdoc position within the field of NGS bioinformatics is available at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (www.mbg.au.dk) and Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) (www.inano.au.dk), Aarhus University, Denmark, from 1 August 2014 or shortly thereafter.
 
Research area and project description
The position is funded by a newly established EU consortium “EpimiRNA” that focuses on the role of microRNA in development of epileptogenesis. The position is embedded in the newly established Center for Integrative Sequencing, which involves research groups from both Health and Science faculties at Aarhus University. The project is conducted in a highly interdisciplinary environment with close contacts to groups in medical science, bioinformatics and molecular biology.
 
Qualifications and specific competences
The applicant should hold a PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics or a related field or alternatively hold a PhD in molecular biology with minimum two years of experience working with NGS data analysis. Applicants with the following qualifications will be preferred:
 
- Ability to independently manipulate large datasets in Unix/Linux environment.
- A record of scientific publication in computational biology, bioinformatics or molecular biology.
- Proficiency in a high-level programming language such as Perl.
- Solid understanding of statistical analysis principles and expert user of one of the statistical data analysis tools/packages, such as R, matlab or equivalent.
- Proficiency in common bioinformatics databases and tools, capable of independently designing and performing diverse bioinformatics tasks. Special emphasis on RNA-seq data.
- Experience working with next generation sequencing data.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects concurrently, and collaborate with others.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience with general wet lab procedures and hands-on experience with various RNA-seq library preparation protocols will be a big advantage.

Science and Technology refers to the Minist erial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
