Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine seeks to fill multiple positions in the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics. Rank is flexible, ranging from Postdoctoral Associate to Associate Professor dependent on experience and qualifications. The positions are available in the laboratory of Helen Tempest, Ph.D. This laboratory has strong interest in the genetic basis of male infertility, DNA damage, and their relationship to toxicants.
Successful candidates will focus on a project funded by the Department of Defense (DOD), requiring cytogenetic analysis of DNA damage (Micronuclei, Chromosome aberration, FISH and Comet assays). The aim of this multidisciplinary project is to compare the sensitivity and specificity of cytogenetic methods for detecting toxicants to that achieved by two novel nano-scale biosensors being developed by bioengineering collaborators. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the biologic sciences; prior cytogenetic experience would be highly advantageous. Candidates will have a broad interest in human and medical genetics and will be expected to assist in training and mentoring undergraduate, medical students and graduate students. Although the priority is to implement the cytogenetic component of this collaborative project, opportunities exist to develop or continue independent research directions. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
