Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed term position as Postdoctoral Researcher within the Genome Stability Laboratory of the Centre for Chromosome Biology at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Funding is from a Science Foundation Ireland Investigator Program Grant to Professor Noel Lowndes and is available from November 2014 for up to 36 months.
 
The postdoctoral position is available within the Genome Stability Laboratory (http://www.chromosome.ie/researchers/lowndes/), a constituent laboratory of the Centre for Chromosome Biology (http://www.chromosome.ie/) at the National University of Ireland Galway (http://www.nuigalway.ie/index.html). The CCB is composed of 11 independent laboratories hosting over 50 researchers, while NUI Galway boasts an active, vibrant student life with over 17,000 students and postdoctoral researchers from around the world.
 
The successful applicant will utilise biochemical and genetic approaches to understand the function and mechanism of action of the PIK kinases, ATM and ATR, which perform crucial tumour suppressive functions in the maintenance of genome stability. For two recent relevant publications see Eykelenboom et al (2013) Cell Reports 2013 5(4): 1095-1107 and Pessina & Lowndes (2014) PLoS Biol., 12, e1001856.
 
Job Description:
 
The successful applicants will be required to:
 
Successfully analyse data, mange and develop their assigned projects
Employ the latest gene targeting methodologies to for analysis of phenotype
Utilise advanced biochemical methodologies to analyse ATM/ATR functions
Develop advanced techniques in microscopy to analyse ATM/ATR functions
Contribute to laboratory management
Actively participate with the training of students
Salary: €37,750 - €46,255 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
 
Start date: Position is available from November 2014
