Opening For Postdoctoral Researcher - Oxford

 Closes: 22nd October 2014
Job Ref: 115209
South Parks Road, Oxford
A position is fixed-term, for 1 year in the first instance, to work at the Zoology Department in Oxford using planarian flatworms to study the pluripotent stem cell behaviour. The group uses planarian flatworms and other invertebrate model systems to study regenerative biology, ageing and associated evolutionary and mechanistic questions. We will attempt to answer key outstanding questions surrounding stem cell behaviour during regeneration, with a particular focus on how positional information is specified.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own research careers, secure funding in their own right and be expected to perform highly competitive world leading research. The main tasks will be to establish and utilise experimental assays to assess key stem cell behaviours relevant to human disease processes. These analyses will form the basis for models that can be tested further by functional genomic approaches. Experience in working with planarians or other invertebrate model systems such as C elegans is highly desirable as is an interest in developmental biology and/or regenerative biology. Additionally experience in using and analysing data from RNAseq and ChiPseq experiments will be a clear advantage. Candidates should have or be about to complete a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area and a publication record demonstrating their ability for world-class research commensurate with their career stage.
Informal enquiries can be addressed to Aziz Aboobaker at the Department of Zoology, Oxford.
Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on 22 October 2014 will be considered. Please upload a CV and supporting statement.
