Opening For Post-Doctoral Fellow - France

The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 20 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile. Within the Experiments Division, the Electronic Structure and Magnetism Group is now seeking to recruit a: Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f) for the ID32 soft X-ray beamline

Description
THE FUNCTION You will participate in ongoing in-house research programmes, the running of the Beamline and providing support to external users as local contact. ID32 is a new upgrade beamline which is just being commissioned. The scientific focus of the beamline is in the areas of electronic structure and magnetism. The beamline has been optimized for experiments using very high energy resolution soft X-ray resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), with a new state-of-the-art spectrometer and soft X-ray absorption dichroism studies (e.g. X-ray Magnetic Circular dichroism (XMCD)) with a 9T superconducting high field magnet and surface science sample preparation facilities. For more details see: http://www.esrf.eu/files/live/sites/www/files/UsersAndScience/Experiments/ElectStructMagn/beamline-portfolio/CDR_UPBL07_future-ID08.pdf You will also be encouraged to develop your own research projects, which should exploit the unique capabilities of the ID32 beamline. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE You should hold a PhD in chemistry, physics or closely related science. A strong background in surface science techniques and/or soft x-rays is desirable.
