The Industrial Research Fund (IOF) of KU Leuven provides funding for strategic basic research and applied research with the aim to develop knowledge that can be used for economic and societal valorization. Within the IOF program, permanent positions as Industrial Research Managers are offered.
Industrial Research Manager – Integrated Diagnostic & Life Science Research Tools
The ever increasing need for faster and personalized in vitro diagnostics is rendering this field one of the brightest for innovation and growth. To embrace this opportunity, a permanent position at KU Leuven is created for an Industrial Research Manager with the aim to initiate a new cross-disciplinary program within KU Leuven for innovation & valorization in the field of integrated diagnostics and life science research tools (IDiaList). Supported by a consortium of research teams from 4 KU Leuven departments with expertise in key enabling technologies, cancer diagnostics and chronic inflammatory diseases, the Industrial Research Manager will mainly focus on substantially increasing the valorization output by (i) integration of scientific findings into beyond-present-day diagnostic solutions, (ii) continuous innovation through research, and (iii) creating a flexible program for dealing efficiently with industrial and academic requests from various fields of diagnostics.
To successfully manage the innovation/exploitation of the IDiaList program, we are recruiting an Industrial Research Manager in the field of Integrated Diagnostic & Life Science Research Tool
Initiation and daily management of the IDiaLiST program
Taking a leading role in valorization of research outcome (patents, licenses, spin-offs…) together with Leuven Research and Development.
Taking a leading role in writing valorization aspects of project proposals
Initiation of and participation in EU-project consortia in the Horizon 2020 programme
Networking and identification of valorization opportunities within and outside of KU Leuven
Participating in negotiating term-sheets with third parties and their close follow-up with LRD
Promotion of the IDiaLiST program at conferences and on-site company visits
You have a PhD in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, bioscience engineering or equivalent with a good track record of research output (peer-reviewed publications, patents);
You have a good understanding of the medical in vitro diagnostics field, in particular the point-of-care diagnostic market;
You have a profound knowledge in development and application of biosensors for medical diagnostics;
You have several years of postdoctoral or industrial experience in related fields;
You have experience in project management (scientific, financial management and reporting) and people management;
You have experience in presenting results and reports to third parties (companies, at conferences);
You have experience in writing grant proposals and patent applications;
You have experience in working within large academic and industrial consortia;
You have skills for identifying the relevant product market combinations or technology product combinations;
You have good negotiation skills;
You are fluent in English (both spoken and written). Fluency in Dutch or willingness to learn Dutch (language courses are provided by the university) is an asset.
