Vision Researcher : San Francisco, CA, United States

The UCSF Department of Ophthalmology is engaged in a multi-year program to expand its basic science faculty. In conjunction with UCSF graduate programs (Program in Biological Sciences and the Biomedical Sciences Program), we are initiating a search to fill a basic/translational science faculty position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. Candidates from any field of study (immunology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, stem cell biology etc.) are welcome to apply to study basic mechanisms and translational applications of physiology or disease. The department is particularly interested in candidates studying photoreceptor function and its relationship to disease. The candidate will be expected to develop a substantial, funded research program. Responsibilities also include participation in graduate programs and graduate student, medical student, resident, and fellow teaching. Requires: PhD and/ or MD degree, at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience, and evidence of high quality independent research.

The position offers an opportunity to join a thriving community of 15 principal investigators conducting basic vision research in a stimulating and collaborative environment. We are particularly interested in a candidate whose research program will forge strong ties to basic science departments on campus. The successful candidate will become a member of a basic science graduate program at UCSF and will be expected to actively participate. Housing assistance will be available.

UCSF is one of the leading biomedical research and health science centers in the world and comprises more than 1,500 laboratories. It offers a rich variety of research opportunities in the biological sciences, encompassing multiple disciplines and departments. Relationships among students, post-docs, and faculty at UCSF are informal and thrive in a spirit of open communication.
