Opening For Teaching and Research Associate - Plymouth University

Faculty of Science and Environment
The School of Biological Sciences at Plymouth University wishes to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with expertise in the field of molecular ecology and/or conservation genetics to assist with both teaching and research activities in this subject area within the School of Biological Sciences.
The role has been created specifically to allow the Head of School time to manage the day to day running of the school and also to pursue strategic school business. The post-holder will work closely with the Head of School to ensure the effective and successful delivery of both teaching and research commitments in this particular field. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual at post-doctoral stage seeking to consolidate their research skills while gaining invaluable research leadership and teaching experience.
You will assume some teaching responsibilities, including assisting in, and leading, practical classes, delivering lectures, and assisting with the marking and administration of undergraduate modules. You will also assist the Head of School in the day-to-day running of a research group including assisting with the supervision of research students as and when required in practical, analytical and writing matters. It is expected that you will contribute to funding applications associated with research in this area, working collaboratively alongside the Head of School to develop existing themes. There will also be opportunities for you to pursue your own particular research interests. You may be asked to fulfil other relevant duties in the school as and when required.
You will have a doctorate or equivalent level of qualification in molecular ecology or a closely related field. Additional post-doctoral experience in this field is desirable but not essential. A track record of research outputs in the form of peer-review publications would be expected. You should have some experience of teaching at undergraduate level. You need not currently hold a HEA recognised teaching qualification; however, you should be willing to undertake this training as part of the role if you do not.
While there is some flexibility, we are seeking to appoint to this role as soon as possible. This is a full time post working 37 hours per week and is fixed-term for 3 years.
For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Mairi Knight (Head of School), on 01752 584636 or email
Closing date:  12midnight
Interviews are likely to take place w/c 15th September 2014
