Opening For Lecturer, Biology Universiteit Maastricht

The Maastricht Science Programme of Maastricht University is looking for an enthusiastic lecturer in biology to join our dynamic international team.

The Maastricht Science Programme follows the tradition of the ‘Liberal Arts and Sciences’, with an emphasis on student centred learning in a small-scale international college-community. This student centred learning is characterized by the opportunity for students to build their own curriculum in the natural sciences, intensive staff-student interactions in small groups, community building, extracurricular activities and personal guidance. The programme is taught in English. Lectures and group meetings take place in the historic centre of Maastricht, whereas the practical parts of the programme are carried out in our own well-equipped biology laboratories at the Chemelot Campus near Geleen.

We are searching for a talented and motivated candidate with a solid background in biology to join our team. The biology lecturer should be able to teach a variety of chemistry related subjects. The specific area of chemical expertise is open, but candidates with a multidisciplinary interest and willingness to cross boundaries between disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching biology courses, skills and projects on different levels for bachelor students. In addition, he/she will supervise undergraduate bachelor thesis students in their research endeavours. Furthermore, he/she will be expected to become an active part of our community, advising students, coordinating parts of our programme, organizing activities, building a scientific network for our students to explore and establishing contacts with other faculties within Maastricht, the Netherlands and across the world.

Requirements
We are looking for inspiring and motivated biology lecturer. The candidate has a PhD in biology and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. He/she has an excellent command of the English language and flourishes well in an international setting.

Conditions of Employment
The salary will be between € 2427,00 and € 4462,00 gross per month, according to scale 10-11, depending on qualifications and prior experience (UFO docent 3). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule). The contract is temporary. The initial appointment is two years. Depending on the further development of the programme and performance of the candidate, an extension of the contract is possible.
