Head of Crop Science - YORK

The Plant Protection Programme is one of four key operational units in Fera and supports the Agency’s activities in plant, crop and bee health and sustainable land use in the agricultural and horticultural sectors.
The Head of Crop Science is responsible for driving the expansion of the crop science business and enhancing Fera’s influence and reputation in that sphere. You will take a key leadership role in developing and directing the vision and activities in response to the government’s Agri-Tech strategy, including developing an Innovation Centre offer and a strategy for maximising success through the Agri-Tech Catalyst fund.
You will also raise the profile of Fera capabilities with key partners including BIS, UKTI, TSB, AHDB and industry and develop our science capability to meet future needs, working across Fera and in partnership with the wider science community.
With substantial scientific experience in crop protection, recognised at national/international level, you will also hold a degree in Life Sciences or equivalent. Previous experience in a leadership role is essential, you will be comfortable managing multidisciplinary teams to provide effective integrated solutions. A good strategic awareness and the ability to secure funding from government and industry is important.
