LSTM is a premier institution in tropical diseases research, with a strong track record in high quality research, postgraduate training and technical assistance related to tropical countries. We have a research portfolio of £200m, 366 staff of which 183 are academic staff, 112 current PhD students, 63 Masters’ students and 225 short course and diploma students. LSTM has international excellence demonstrated in HEFCE research performance. The portfolio includes basic drug discovery through to large drug trials and health services research, with teams working in trials, research synthesis and modelling.
 
LSTM has created a number of new strategic academic posts to help underpin its research and training portfolio, particularly in applied health services research. We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Biomathematics, to contribute to the development and deployment of mathematical, statistical and bioinformatics tools applicable to broad range of clinical and laboratory-based research. The appointee will provide methodological development, tools, training and consultation to the research community.
 
The successful candidate will have experience of mathematical or statistical analyses relevant to the analysis of contemporary clinical and biomedical datasets in one or more of the following areas: mathematical modelling, computational biology, bioinformatics, evolutionary genetics, databases, machine learning or simulation. The current research strategy includes a focus on expanding translational and applied health research, so there would be an expectation that the successful candidate would contribute to the emerging portfolio in these areas.
 
You will be required to engage in appropriate postgraduate teaching activities related to your own specialist interests, apply for/secure grant applications. You will have a strong track record in published research with experience of medical statistics in applied research and epidemiological research.
