Opening For Senior Commissioning Editor - Cambridge

 We are looking for a Senior Commissioning Editor to become part of a team that is responsible for commissioning a highly successful and growing books programme. The programme has grown considerably in recent years and publishes titles across the breadth of the chemical sciences.
 
We are seeking a candidate with demonstrable negotiation, communication, organisational and leadership skills.
 
Your responsibilities will focus on:
 
Leading, motivating and developing a team of Commissioning Editors and Editorial Assistants
 
Setting, developing and delivering books commissioning plans (including KPIs) for the team in conjunction with the other Senior Commissioning Editor
 
Contributing to and maintaining a culture of innovation and creative thinking in terms of delivering the teamâ??s strategic targets and KPIs
 
Commissioning books/series and developing the best authorship and readership through personal contact, commissioning, attendance at conferences etc.
 
Leading and developing the Editorial and Advisory Boards such that they provide the maximum benefit to the book series/titles and strong interactions with their communities
 
Continuously monitoring and evaluating the requirements of the scientific community, and the STM and competitor landscape and using this knowledge to develop strategic plans
 
Building strong working relationships with sales and marketing colleagues to realise the full revenue potential of commissioned titles and ensure the market profile of the product is maximised
 
Deputising for the Publisher in their absence
 
We are looking for:
 
Significant experience in STM books publishing or in commissioning/acquiring content
A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred)
Sound business acumen, and demonstrable negotiation skills
An understanding of the working of Editorial Boards, and the ability to manage effective meetings
Good knowledge of developments in the marketplace and the capability of identifying opportunities and future developments within the publishing industry and reacting accordingly
A high degree of staff management skill and being able to apply this to recruitment, training, supervision, motivation and development of staff
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good organisational and time-management skills are required together with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
Capacity to travel both nationally and internationally
