Applications are invited for a dynamic senior statistical epidemiologist to work within the Genetic Epidemiology Group at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI).
 
The successful candidate will be expected to lead, and contribute to, a variety of research programmes within the group, including research capacity building initiatives. This work will include the design, organisation and analysis of population based epidemiological studies, including complex survey, multi-centre and clustered study designs in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as lead on clinical trial development with a specific focus on developing a programme of interventional research around blood pressure reduction in population-based settings, and integrated care for chronic diseases. A major element of the work will include research capacity building in statistical epidemiology and large-scale epidemiological data analysis. Extensive interaction with international collaborators is expected.
 
Essential Skills
 
Educated to degree level, and a PhD in medical statistics, epidemiology or a related discipline
Ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload
Detail oriented and highly organised with the ability to ensure accuracy and rigour in all areas of work
Ability to manage his/her own time and workload without continuous supervision and troubleshoot problems
Competence in standard IT software packages, eg Word, Excel, Powerpoint
Ability to deal with difficult or pressured situations
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication skills and ability to convey concepts to colleagues in different fields of research
Clear communication skills in both oral and written English
Previous experience of project management
Experience of maintaining office systems and following office procedures
Ability to work competently, efficiently and to deadlines
Ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously
The ability to present methodologies and results clearly and succinctly
Statistical programming experience with, for example, R and Matlab
Proficiency and expertise in data analysis using STATA and other statistical software
Post-degree experience working with statistical analyses of epidemiological study datasets
