Opening For Non-Native Species Specialist : Sand Hutton

 Non-Native Species Specialist
Sand Hutton, York
As one of the country's leading emergency response services, the role of the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency is to help safeguard animal health and welfare and public health, protect the economy and enhance food security through research, surveillance and inspection.
Providing research and delivery support to the UK Government, your remit will span domestic policy on invasive species, plus obligations under the European Union Regulation. Put simply, you will inform the way the nation prevents and manages the introduction and spread of invasive alien species. To this end, you'll plan, manage and secure funding for a portfolio of projects within the National Wildlife Management Centre. Subjects will range from applied research into risks posed by non-native species and their management, to the delivery of invasive plant and animal control initiatives, both within the UK and overseas.
Qualified to at least degree level (or equivalent) in ecology, you will bring to the role detailed knowledge of non-native species ecology and management. Ideally, you will have proven experience of providing policy advice and support, backed up by in-depth knowledge of relevant UK and EU policy and a demonstrable ability to make a scientific impact. You will certainly demonstrate high standards of literacy and numeracy, a flair for networking and team building. You have written high quality scientific reports and/or peer-reviewed scientific papers, and presented your findings to external audiences.
In return for your hard work and commitment, you'll enjoy excellent training and professional development opportunities, plus attractive civil service benefits.
