 NERC – Natural Environment Research Council- is the UK’s leading public funder of environmental science. We invest more than £330m every year in world-leading research, training and innovation. Our headquarters in Swindon provides strategy, policy and administrative leadership for NERC.
 
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to take up the role of Innovation Manager in the priority area of natural resources and its constituent sectors with a primary focus on the Oil and Gas sector.
 
As Innovation Manager, you will;
• Lead and manage innovation and exploitation activity across NERC in this area, to ensure our investments in innovation, exploitation, research and facilities provide maximum benefit both for the economy and for society.
• Develop of innovation programmes and strategic partnerships with leading businesses. 
• Oversee the development and delivery of the Oil & Gas Innovation programme and manage the secondment contract of British Geological Survey staff supporting this activity.
• Lead development and management of an innovation portfolio.
 
Combining a commercial and/or broad scientific understanding of the Oil & Gas sector and underpinning science, you will have a proven ability to bring a variety of stakeholders together (particularly key Oil and Gas industrial players) and facilitate the translation of research outcomes into business benefits. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must, as is the practical application of project management skills. 
You will also have a strong track record of identifying and effectively developing opportunities and collaborations involving businesses and academic stakeholders. You will ideally demonstrate an existing network of contacts in the Oil and Gas sector in both the commercial and academic sectors.
 
Contract management skills and a demonstrable understanding of effective innovation mechanisms and cultural drivers within this area will complete the range of skills and knowledge which equip you to deliver this key role. 
The role requires regular business travel, including some overnight absences.
