Staff Category: Staff Member
Contract Duration: 5 years
Closing Date: 19 October 2014 (extended until 02 November 2014)
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
The Scientific Programme of EMBL emphasizes experimental analysis at multiple levels of biological organisation, from the molecule to the organism, using a broad set of approaches including biochemistry, genetics, imaging, computational biology, bioinformatics, and systems biology. Within this overall structure, the EMBL-Monterotondo Outstation applies a wide range of modern technologies to diverse problems of whole organism biology. Currently research groups address areas of neurobiology, epigenetics, RNA biology, and developmental biology (www.embl.it/research). The Outstation offers a dynamic and open research environment supported by core funding and state-of-the-art facilities in histology, flow cytometry, recombineering/genome engineering, and transgenic services.
In addition, groups at the Monterotondo Outstation benefit from close interactions with EMBL researchers at Hinxton, Hamburg, Grenoble, and Heidelberg (Developmental Biology, Genome Biology, Cell Biology and Biophysics, Structural and Computational Biology) and associated Core Facilities (Genomics, Advanced Light Microscopy, Electron Microscopy, Protein Expression, Chemical Biology, Proteomics, Flow Cytometry).
EMBL offers a highly collaborative, uniquely international culture. It fosters top quality, interdisciplinary research by promoting a vibrant environment consisting of young independent research groups with access to outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The EMBL research environment is particularly attractive for researchers with families and EMBL strongly encourages applications from female researchers.
EMBL is searching for a Group Leader to head up an independent research group at the EMBL-Monterotondo Outstation in Rome. We seek dynamic interactive individuals with an excellent track record and demonstrated experience or interest in the general area of neurobiology and a desire to join a multidisciplinary environment. We encourage applications from scientists working on diverse questions relating to mammalian neurobiology that would benefit from the mouse as an experimental system and the use of modern genetic, epigenetic, and genomic approaches. Further information about research in the Mouse Biology Unit and EMBL can be found at the EMBL web page.
