Chief Scientist in Engineering science based on advanced measurements and devices — Permanent Position, RIKEN
RIKEN invites applications for the position of Chief Scientist to lead a new laboratory. Research at RIKEN is conducted in a way that goes beyond existing disciplinary boundaries, based on the comprehensive and interdisciplinary nature of RIKEN and on a spirit of creativity. The successful candidate will be responsible for the laboratory's overall management and research strategy, directing research projects and contributing to more general aspects of RIKEN's management and research planning activities from a medium- and long-term perspective.
Engineering science based on advanced measurements and devices:
RIKEN is recruiting a scientist who develops novel technological seeds for next-generation engineering, including information/communication devices, biological analyses, and actuator technologies, based on his/her original physical approaches using quantum metrology, NEMS/MEMS, flexible electronics, or similar platforms.
Number of openings
Applicants should have appropriate research experience supported by a distinguished research record and the ability to play a pivotal role in the research area. Applications from overseas candidates are welcome.
Wako, Saitama prefecture, Japan in principle. Work may be at another location, taking into consideration the nature of the research undertaken.
Remuneration and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
The post is a permanent appointment, subject to RIKEN's mandatory retirement age of 60. Depending on evaluation results, it is possible to continue research until age 65 as a Chief Scientist (Fixed-term employee).
Terms and conditions of employment shall include a director-level salary and be in accordance with RIKEN's procedures for appointing Chief Scientists.
Social health insurance, commuting and housing allowances might be provided. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai). Days off are weekends, public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec 29 – Jan 3) and RIKEN Foundation Day.
Starting date of employment
RIKEN expects that the successful applicant will be able to take up this position on April 1, 2015.
