Illumina’s Technology Development function (EMEA) is looking for a driven and innovative leader to help drive early-phase product development at their EMEA headquarters. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work on one of the most exciting technology platforms in life sciences. Illumina’s sequencing technology utilises proprietary biochemistry coupled with state of the art microfluidics, laser detection and powerful software. Illumina has held its place as the leading NGS platform by reinvesting heavily into R&D to ensure it is at the front of the technology curve. This role will put the post holder at the centre of this drive.
 
This role would suit candidates that have a strong pedigree in product development and clearly show where they have steered company resource to deliver innovative solutions to a technical brief.
 
Core Responsibilities:
 
To leading a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to developing novel and industry-leading DNA sequencing technologies and platform enhancements Identifying and evaluating new product opportunities, including concept costing and market opportunity assessment Working closely with cross-site business units and teams to meet functional and company goals Contributing to portfolio planning and technology road mapping activities Maintaining a strong external network of entrepreneurs and academia, including attending and speaking at key events Providing strategic direction to advances in technological capabilities
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
MS or PhD in physics, engineering, physical chemistry, or related discipline Demonstrable industrial experience within a relevant industry sector coupled with hands-on knowledge of working in a management role Broad technology and product development background spanning instrumentation, assays, and algorithms A deep knowledge of engineering techniques applicable to life sciences Basic knowledge of manufacturing and prototyping processes Innovative, driven, results-oriented and methodical, with record of achievement commensurate with previous experience Effectively communicates with scientists, executives, patent attorneys and other professionals to achieve desired results Strong interpersonal, verbal communication and presentation skills
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
 
Experience of regulated product development in the medical device industry, including writing protocols for 510(k) and PMA submissions to the FDA Proficient at CAD modeling and engineering drawings using AutoCAD or SolidWorks Strong programming skills (Python, C++) Experience with Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing
