Grade 6: £26,527 – £31,644 p.a.
A Research Assistant position is available in Dr Jan Rehwinkel’s group in the MRC Human Immunology Unit. You will support our studies dissecting the recognition of microbes by the innate immune system. The group investigates how nucleic acids that are produced during infection with a variety of viral pathogens trigger immune receptors, focussing on innate sensors that survey the cytoplasm.
You will provide organisational and technical support for our investigations in this area. You will provide general support to the running of the laboratory. You will support Dr Rehwinkel in the administration of the laboratory’s project licence and you will work with transgenic in vivo models. You will also be involved in laboratory research using a variety of techniques including molecular biology, cell culture, nucleic acid biochemistry and virology. You will occasionally provide technical supervision to other lab members.
It is essential that you have a degree in a relevant biological subject, such as molecular biology or immunology. Moreover, you should have significant previous experience of molecular biology and good tissue culture and/or of working with transgenic in vivo models.
You will be required to display flexibility, commitment and a willingness to innovate, delivered via excellent communication skills. You must have the ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
