The Basic Science Program (BSP) pursues independent, multidisciplinary research programs in basic or applied molecular biology, immunology, retrovirology, cancer biology or human genetics. Research efforts and support are an integral part of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The Flow Cytometry Core supports the research efforts of the Center for Cancer Research by providing expertise in the field of flow cytometry with the goal of better understanding the biology of cancer and cancer cells. The Flow Cytometry Core provides advice on the experimental design of applications, which include immunological phenotyping, cell function assays, and cell cycle analysis.
The Research Associate II is responsible for: (1) the operation and maintenance of the bench-top analyzers and cell sorter flow cytometers, (2) training scientific end users on the use of flow cytometry in their research and how to operate and troubleshoot the bench-top analyzer instruments, and (3) ordering lab supplies and record keeping.
: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a field related to biomedical research or four (4) years equivalent experience in the appropriate field in lieu of degree
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years related biomedical experience
- Experience with techniques and theories used in multi-parameter flow cytometry
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic lab skills, including sterile technique
- Previous experience working with Becton Dickinson flow cytometers
