The purpose of this conference is to showcase the current growth that the Spanish biotech sector has experienced in the last 5 years. The Spanish bio-industry has grown over 20% giving rise to over 200 new bio starts-ups located across the country. Currently, Spain is experiencing a 25% growth per year in the biotech sector. This has increased the number of jobs, attracted foreign investors and greatly impacted Spain's GDP. This event aims to increase awareness of what Spanish biotech companies have achieved, opening the door for a genesis of alliances and partnerships with their counterparts in the State of Maryland.

The Spanish Company PharmaMar , belonging to the Zeltia Group, is the only company to have successfully market a drug based on marine bioprospecting, positioning Spain as one of the leading countries in marine biotechnology. Moreover, the country of Oman, has set-up the first Marine Biotechnology Center of Excellence in the Gulf region, positioning itself as a gateway for marine research in the Persian Gulf.This conference aims to present the most important global topics in marine biotechnology research, at an international level, in the fields of drug discovery, bioremediation and sustainable fishing.
