What are good non-commercial sites for finding graphics and images for all disciplines, from micro and molecular biology to biophysics to anatomy and physiology?
Both microsoft and corel have HUGE, searcheable clipart and image galleries with cartoons, line drawings, imges and more. Of course the images are not super specialized, but I've spotted things from assorted microscopes, mice and DNA strands (common stuff ;) to what looked like a Raman scatter plot (shocked surprise).
Also check out cellsalive.com - that requires payment for use of images, but is quite good.
Btw, happy new year!
Hi Samm, thanks for your input, could you please give us some URL addresses so we can click on and see some of these images that your are talking about?
Go to microsoft.com, office family, and select pages you want - they have templates, clip art, media clips etc.
cellsalive.com has more.
For something very specific, try Google Image Search, but note that you might need to request permission before using the images.
I didnt understand what it has got to do with non comercial, as Microsoft is a comercial site. And also were is the relevance to the biological images. I didnt find any.
The webpage is great but for non biological issues.

PREPI V0.9 (alpha release)
This software is freely available to academic/non-commerical institutions
PREPI is a molecular graphics program which can be used to EASILY produce and interactively manipulate many different types of molecular representations (cartoons) as well as providing quantative information on secondary structural topology. The program is not just limited to proteins, but can also show cartoon representations of NUCLEIC ACIDS. In fact the program is capable of displaying "ANY" object for which cartesian coordinates are available. The program can input data from a wide range of data file formats (e.g. Broohaven PDB, Cambridge Databank, SYBL, Z-MATRIX) including its own FREE FORMAT which allows for the construction of complex objects such as Virus particles.
