I need advise on how to remove DNA contamination in the DNA extraction lab. I usually work in a class II biosafety cabinet.
There are many ways to remove DNA contamination. One is to clean all surfaces with bleach and then ethanol. Another is to install UV lights in the ceiling and turning them on, and leaving them on, during the night.
Class II biosafety cabinets usually come with instructions on how to clean them. If you do not have those instructions you should contact the manufacturer since it is easy to destroy a cabinet if you use the wrong cleaning solutions.
To remove DNA contamination I work in an UV cabinet, first I clean with a tissue containing destilled water and then ethanol. then I irradiate with UV for 20 min aprox. I also use a product called DNAzap, it eliminates all the DNA from the surfaces, but you don´t have to use it every time, I use every two weeks aprox.
