Best Agarose gel to see PCR products?

 Hi,

I'm trying to scale-up my post-PCR gels.  I have access to a Biorad ICycler qPCR machine, but I also need to see if the PCR product is the right size, so I run the samples on gels.  I currently use Invitrogen 10% acrylamide TBE gels, which give beautiful results but are expensive and limited to 15 or 30 samples at a time.
In general, I've been unhappy with old school agarose gels which give fuzzy bands.  But money is also getting tighter.

Since I'm likely to need 100 wells at a time, and I like sharp bands, what agarose gel products do you recommend?
Agarose (which brand and what % for 50bp to 700bp), gel box, combs, other suggestions to speed things up and get great results?

Thanks.

I think exactly what you are looking for is the Elchrom system.  It is a gel electrophoresis system that can give you great resolution and direct recovery of DNA.  The money you spend on the system and gels is saved in kits you need to buy for gel extraction and PCR purification.  You can find more information here:

I've also heard of people using acrylamide gels, though I'm not as familar with that.

Good luck!

Awesome suggestion.  I need to check pricing, but this is exactly the sort of thing I was thinking about.

Thanks.
