Safety cabinet/ laminer flow for transformed bacteria?

I wanted to know what type of safety cabinet/laminer flow I need to use for working with transformed bacteria (for example while growing the bacteria and then isolating of plasmid etc). Whether it should be for user protection or/and product protection. Thanks

Intro to Biological Safety Cabinets

In general - it sounds like you need a Biosafety Cabinet Class II Type A2. This is the most common microbiological safety cabinet and will protect both the user and the product.

How Biological Safety Cabinets are Classified

Classification Biosafety Level Application
Class I 1,2,3 low to moderate risk biological agents
Class II 1,2,3 low to moderate risk biological agents
Class III 4 high risk biological agents

Most of the transformed bacteria are handled at biosafety level ( containment) 2.Its not only to protect user and product but protection of environment is also includedas they generally carry some or other antibiotic resistance gene plus some foreign gene. Depending on the type of gene transfected it is further categorized into higher level or sublevels. But level 2 is minimum.
Person handling them should have minimum training in handling, discard etc.
