A little background... I was given HEK cells about 3 months ago and successfully transfected them with pcDNA3.1/hChR2(H134R)-mCherry... For a little over a month now I've been trying to establish a stable cell line by treating with neomycin (my plasmid carries resistance to this); however, they just keep growing. While researching info regarding maintenance media, I came across an article about HEK 293 FT cells that stated that these cells carry neomycin resistance due to their stable expression of SV40 large T antigen. The prof who gave me these cells isn't sure what type they were so I was wondering if there was anyway to find out? I thought maybe take un-transfected cells and treat them with neomycin, if they live they are 293FT, but I also read that neomycin isn't terrible effective in mammalian cells. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!
