Department Name: Medicine
Position: Postdoctoral Associates
Description: The laboratory of Dr. Victor Dzau is currently recruiting several postdoctoral candidates to participate in ongoing projects in cardiovascular research including: 1) Studies on renin gene expression focusing on the role of stem cells as a source of juxtaglomerular cells both during normal development as well as during physiologic and pathophysiologic regulation in the adult; 2) Novel studies in regenerative biology on the use of stem cells for cardiac repair and regeneration and the identification and characterization of stem cell-derived products that can be developed into novel therapies; and 3) Gene therapy for the heart focusing on the identification of new therapeutic genes, identification of novel intracellular targets and on the translation of these studies toward clinically relevant animal models and, ultimately, to clinical studies. Our group uses multiple approaches such as physiology, mouse genetics, microscopy and molecular/biochemical/cell biological tools. Our studies increasingly involve large-scale approaches, such as microarrays, proteomics and RNA silencing.
Requirements: Successful candidates will have proven research ability in one or more of these areas. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, familiarity with the latest biochemical and molecular biological techniques; be goal-oriented, an innovative thinker and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Additional Information: Fellows have access to cutting-edge technologies and the opportunity for collaborations in several basic and clinical departments; the environment is diverse and multicultural. Salary is commensurate with experience and based on current NIH guidelines. Opportunity for advancement exists following the fellowship period for those who prove themselves.
