Scientific Societies and Conflicts of Interest

Here is the transcript of a conflict of interest policy from The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB). I never really considered that a scientific society is a nonprofit organization and subject to the conflict of interest laws governing nonprofits.
Here are some points from the policy I found interesting:
A person cannot serve as the annual meeting program chair for ASCB and another society at the same time.
A person can not issue an award to a relative.
A society leader can not accept gifts from vendors or anyone else attempting to do business with the society.
These are just highlights from the actual policy.
I imagine things can get a little dicey sometimes.
