Catalase naturally occurring in SOD

I have been told that Catalase is naturally occurring in SOD, and my boss has sent some SOD to be made into a tablet but now the QC department of the tablet manufacturer wants proff that the Catalase is actually in the SOD. Does anyone know where I can get informaiton to resolve this?

Let me know

thanks

VegasHo,

VegasHo,

If SOD here means superoxide dismutase, whoever told you that didn't know what (s)he was talking about. Catalase doesn't occur in SOD naturally... It is possible though to use molecular biology techniques to make conjugate proteins with dual activity... maybe this is the case here.

Try searching for "catalase" and/or "superoxide dismutase" in pubmed or google scholar and you'll find that they are two different proteins that catalyzed different reactions...

There are assays for catalase activity, for example googling gives these.

VegasHo,

VegasHo,

Even in the Bovine SOD!

You should really try to master the art of googling, you'd be surprised how useful it can be... quick search gave the answer: commercial preparation is contaminated, it's not a pure preparation, there are two proteins in the mixture...

Cheers,
