Do you want a scanner for X-ray film (eg chemiluminesce/Western) or do you want a complete imaging system? If its the former, an easy solution is to get a good mid level (600x1200dpi resolution atleast) scanner from HP/Acer/Epson, and get densitometric software such as ImageQuant from Fuji or KDS-1D from Kodak to analyse the scanned images.
we use a 2400dpi HP scanner with NIH Image software (yeah it's old and only runs on mac os9...but that is what i have to use in my lab) which is pretty good and easy to use.
BTW, our institution just acquired the Fujifilm LAS-3000 Imaging System. It's quite expensive but it's versatile, as it can be used for fluorescence and luminiscence. I'm happy with it for now.
I have HP scanner 600x1200dpi where I scan my blots and then quantitate in densitometric software in Mac by NIH Image, have also tried Image J for windows.

Thank you I thinK that is a good idea.

I've used Scion Image, which is a kind of version of NIH Image for windows. Its freeware and can be downloaded from

Yes! The Fujifilm system is really versatile - I miss it here in my new lab.
